URBANA, Ill. (Chambana Today) — Carle Health has implemented temporary visitor restrictions and masking recommendations at its facilities in response to increasing respiratory illness rates across central and southeastern Illinois. The health system is closely following the guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reduce the spread of respiratory infections like RSV, flu, and COVID-19.
Effective immediately, patient rooms will be limited to two visitors at a time, and visitors must be 18 years or older. Anyone exhibiting respiratory symptoms is strongly encouraged to wear a mask while in Carle Health facilities.
“Carle Health continuously monitors the rates of RSV, flu, COVID-19, and other infections in the areas we serve,” said Dr. Robert Healy, Carle Health’s Chief Associate Medical Director for Quality, Patient Safety, and Patient Experience. “Given the steady increase in respiratory illnesses, these temporary precautions are necessary to protect our patients and the community.”
Studies have shown that limiting exposure and requiring masks can help reduce transmission of viral illnesses, leading to faster recovery and fewer infections. Carle Health will continue to assess the situation and lift these temporary restrictions when the spread of illness decreases.
