Champaign man arrested after overnight shooting incident

CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — A Champaign man is facing multiple felony charges after police said an argument escalated into gunfire early Sunday morning.

Officers with the Champaign Police Department responded around midnight to the 2600 block of West Springfield Avenue following reports of shots fired in the area. When officers arrived, investigators determined an argument between individuals had escalated and one person discharged what police described as an unlawfully possessed firearm.

Police later identified the suspect as 38-year-old Ywaian J. Langford. He was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said no injuries or property damage were reported during the shooting.

According to Champaign County records, Langford was arrested on charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault involving the discharge of a firearm.

The incident remains under investigation.
