URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — Trevor Lewis, the Champaign man accused of stabbing three first responders in 2025, continues refusing transport from jail to court as his criminal case moves closer to trial.

According to Champaign County court records, Lewis, 23, has not personally appeared in court since Oct. 3, 2025. Records indicate he has repeatedly refused transportation from the Champaign County Jail while remaining in custody.

Lewis faces six felony charges, including three counts of attempted murder and three counts of aggravated battery. Prosecutors allege Lewis called 911 on Sept. 4, 2025 reporting mental health concerns before stabbing two firefighters and a paramedic who responded to assist him. All three first responders were treated and released from the hospital.

This week, Lewis failed to appear for a hearing regarding possible self-representation at trial. Judge Matthew Lee proceeded with scheduling a jury trial for June 8.

A plea hearing has now been scheduled for May 28 after the court denied a request from Lewis’ public defender for another fitness examination. Lewis had previously been found fit to stand trial or enter a plea.
