More than 1,200 Ameren customers lost power in Champaign during Sunday storms

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (Chambana Today) — More than 1,200 Ameren Illinois customers lost power Sunday evening in Champaign as severe weather moved through central Illinois. According to Ameren’s outage map, the outage affected customers south of West Springfield Avenue, near Centennial High School. Power was reported out shortly after 6:20 p.m.

As of 6:50 p.m., Ameren crews were still assessing the cause of the outage and working to determine when service would be restored. No estimated restoration time had been announced.

Ameren officials said updates would be provided as crews continued their investigation and restoration efforts. The incident remained under evaluation late Sunday evening.
