CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) Illini Media Group has announced the appointment of Patrick Ireland as their new Director of Sales. At 41, Ireland brings over two decades of experience across various sales sectors, including real estate, beverage distribution, medical device sales, and recruitment. With his broad skillset and strong community connections, he is ready to lead Illini Media Group’s sales team into an exciting new era of growth and collaboration with local businesses.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Illini Media Group,” Ireland shared. “Radio and online media are evolving faster than ever, and Illini Media Group is in a unique position to really make an impact for local businesses. I look forward to connecting with our community and showing them the power of our platforms.”

A Dynamic Career Journey

Before stepping into his new role, Ireland’s career took him through several fields that helped shape his understanding of sales, customer service, and business needs. He started in new home sales before transitioning to real estate brokerage. From there, he moved into beverage distribution and medical device sales, all of which honed his ability to navigate diverse markets and understand the specific needs of clients.

“I’ve never been the type to stick to a single track. I enjoy the challenge of learning new industries, meeting different people, and finding solutions that make a real difference,” Ireland said. “Every career move I’ve made has given me a new skill, and I’m eager to apply everything I’ve learned to help Illini Media Group and our advertisers succeed.”

Commitment to Clients and Community

Ireland’s commitment to helping his clients achieve their goals is one of the reasons he’s so well-regarded. He recalled a moment from his real estate days when he helped a client avoid a major mistake. “I once talked someone out of buying a house they had fallen in love with. It wasn’t the right fit for them, and they’d forgotten about an essential feature they needed. They were so thankful later when they realized I was looking out for them,” Ireland explained. “To me, sales isn’t about closing deals—it’s about building trust. If you’re doing what’s right for your client, you’re building a relationship that lasts.”

This philosophy of honesty and client-first service will guide his leadership at Illini Media Group. “There’s a lot of noise out there in the marketplace. What we can offer is something solid—radio and online advertising is personal, effective, and still one of the most powerful ways to engage with an audience,” he said. “I want to make sure local businesses understand that we’re not just selling ad spots; we’re offering them a partnership to grow their brand and reach.”

Leading with Purpose and Vision

In his new role, Ireland is focused on making Illini Media Group the go-to partner for local businesses looking to make their mark through radio and media advertising. “We have a responsibility to not only serve our clients but to help them succeed. That means understanding their needs and delivering solutions that truly work,” he said. “We have such a broad reach and a strong connection to our community. I see my role as helping people understand the value we provide, not just in terms of exposure, but in creating lasting connections.”

Ireland’s leadership style reflects this commitment to client satisfaction. He emphasized the importance of supporting his team, sharing, “Sales leadership is not about telling people what to do, it’s about supporting them and helping them grow. The better we understand each other and the marketplace, the better we’ll be at helping local businesses thrive.”

A Family Man with a Personal Touch

Outside of work, Ireland is a dedicated father to his daughter, who keeps him busy with her love for soccer. “She’s on the go all the time, but when we’re not running around, we enjoy doing everything together—cooking, golfing, bike rides, and, most importantly, our evening walks,” Ireland said with a smile. “Those walks have been some of our best conversations, especially now that she’s 13. It’s a time to connect, talk about her day, and just enjoy each other’s company.”

Ireland describes his relationship with his daughter as being built on trust, much like his professional relationships. “I think parenting is a lot like sales—you offer guidance, but ultimately, it’s about building trust and being there when it counts. I hope to bring that same spirit to my work at Illini Media Group.”

Embracing the Power of Social Media

One of the biggest challenges in today’s media landscape is the role of social media in sales. Ireland has embraced it as a necessary tool to stay ahead of the curve. “Social media has completely changed how we communicate and engage with clients. It sets the speed limit for information today. If something happens at noon, it’s already on Facebook by 12:30,” Ireland explained. “As salespeople, we need to stay in front of that. Whether you’re recruiting, selling a product, or promoting a local business, you have to meet people where they’re at—and right now, that’s on social media.”

While he admits it’s not his favorite tool, Ireland recognizes the importance of using it to its full potential. “I wouldn’t say I love social media, but I’m not blind to its power. If we use it effectively, it can be a game changer for our clients and the way we reach our audience.”

Looking Forward to Building Relationships

Looking ahead, Ireland is excited about the future of Illini Media Group and its ability to help local businesses. “Radio might seem old-fashioned to some, but it’s still incredibly relevant, especially in this community. It’s personal, it’s local, and it has the power to make a real impact. I’m excited to help our sales team bring that message to the businesses who could benefit from it the most,” Ireland said.

As he begins this next chapter of his career, Ireland remains focused on one thing above all: “It’s about building lasting relationships, whether it’s with our clients, our team, or the community we serve. That’s what I’m most excited about—making a difference and helping businesses thrive.”
