CHAMPAIGN, IL (Chambana Today) — R.A.C.E.S, the local nonprofit providing counseling, education, and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, is hosting its annual fundraiser, “In Community 2026,” on Tuesday, May 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riggs Beer Company. The event celebrates the power of community in supporting survivors while raising funds to sustain critical programs across central Illinois.

For 55 years, R.A.C.E.S (Rape Advocacy, Counseling, and Education Services) has offered free and confidential support to survivors, including 24-hour hotline services, emergency advocacy, therapy, legal assistance, and prevention education. Executive Director Jaya Kolisetty emphasized that the event demonstrates how community involvement directly impacts the safety and well-being of local residents.

“This is about showing up for survivors and creating a safer community,” Kolisetty said. “Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or attending events like this, everyone has a role to play in supporting healing and prevention.”

In Community 2026 will feature trivia, music bingo, live and silent auctions, and food from Aspen Tap House, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. Attendees of all ages are welcome, and even those who cannot attend in person can participate in the silent auction online. Funds raised help R.A.C.E.S maintain free services, fill gaps not covered by grants, and ensure survivors have access to immediate safety resources.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online here. More information about sponsorships, donations, and volunteer opportunities is also available on the website.

Kolisetty emphasized the importance of community involvement in creating safe spaces. “We couldn’t do this work without the support of our local community,” she said. “Whether it’s volunteering, donating, or simply showing up for events, every action helps survivors know they are not alone and strengthens the network of care available.”

She underscored that R.A.C.E.S’ mission is sustained by community support. “Survivors should never have to navigate healing alone. We’re here 24 hours a day to provide confidential, free support for anyone who needs it.”

For immediate support, R.A.C.E.S can be reached at 217-384-4444 or RACES | Rape Advocacy, Counseling, & Education Services.
