Springfield boy dies from injuries in Chatham crash

SPRINGFIELD, IL (Chambana Today) – An eight-year-old boy from Springfield, Bradley Lund, has died from injuries sustained in a tragic crash in Chatham on April 28.

Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed that Lund passed away on June 2 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for multiple blunt force injuries. He was one of six individuals injured when a vehicle drove through an afterschool program at 301 N. Breckenridge Road in Chatham, crashing into the building. The crash also resulted in the deaths of three girls—Ainsley Johnson, 8; Kathryn Corley, 7; and Alma Buhnerkempe, 7—along with 18-year-old Rylee Britton, all from Chatham and Springfield.

Authorities believe the driver, Marianne Akers, 44, may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner and the Illinois State Police.
