MONTICELLO, Ill. (Chambana Today) — A special gardening event is set to take place in Monticello to welcome the arrival of fall in Central Illinois.

The Growing Community program series, held by the Dewitt and Piatt Master Gardeners, is a year-round initiative aimed at engaging residents through educational sessions on timely and practical gardening topics. U of I Extension staff and volunteer invite the community to attend September’s Growing Bulbs program at the Piatt County Extension office.

The event will be held at noon on September 16 at the office in Monticello. Participants will learn how to select, plant, and care for bulbs to create stunning displays of color in their gardens.

“Planting bulbs can be a good investment of time and money,” says Horticulture Program Coordinator Beth Miglin. “Bulbs can provide color in your garden for many years, and fall is a great time to plant spring-flowering bulbs.”

There is no cost to attend the program, but advance registration by Sept. 15 at go.illinois.edu/GrowBulbs is requested.

The DeWitt and Piatt County Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by University of Illinois Extension. Master Gardeners fulfill their mission of Helping Others Learn to Grow by volunteering their time and horticulture skills through community gardening projects and educational outreach
