URBANA, IL (Chambana Today) — The Urbana Fire Department recently recognized a major career milestone for firefighter Auste Shelmadine, who has been promoted to the rank of engineer.

The promotion from firefighter to engineer marks an important step within the department. Engineers are responsible for the safe operation of fire apparatus, managing water supply at emergency scenes and supporting the officer in charge to ensure operations are carried out safely and effectively.

Shelmadine’s promotion ceremony included special participation from his family. His daughter, Mauve, and son, Parker, had the honor of pinning his new engineer badge. His wife, Katie, along with extended family members, attended the event in support.
