SAVOY, IL (Chambana Today) — Family, friends, and community members will gather in Savoy on Feb. 8 to celebrate a rare and meaningful milestone as World War II veteran David Anderson turns 100 years old.

Anderson, who came of age during one of the most pivotal periods in world history, answered the call to serve by enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. His service places him among a shrinking number of living veterans who witnessed and helped shape a defining era in American history.

“Turning 100 is remarkable in itself but doing so after living through — and helping shape — such a pivotal era makes this moment truly special,” said Nancy Mella-Oliver, vice president of operations at Windsor of Savoy. “We are celebrating not only a birthday, but a life defined by courage, resilience, and dedication.”

The celebration will be held at Windsor of Savoy, 401 Burwash Ave., from 2-3 p.m., where attendees will recognize Anderson’s military service, reflect on his legacy, and express gratitude for the sacrifices made by his generation. Anderson’s story, including his service during the Battle of Peleliu, is also highlighted by the Champaign County History Museum.

As one of the nation’s remaining World War II veterans, Anderson serves as a living connection to history and a reminder of the enduring strength of those who served during the war.
